Travertine Store offers to all its clients an interesting range of natural stone products. But which are the difference between these natural stones? Where do they come from? Below we answer some of these questions. Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Geologists use the term “marble” to refer to metamorphosed limestone; however stonemasons use the term more broadly to encompass unmetamorphosed limestone. The marble is a fairly hard natural stone that is most commonly used on flooring applications, cladding, some stone-work, sculpture and other applications. Most of the marble we offer on our catalogue have beige, white or red colour. Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate. Many limestones are composed from skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera. Limestone makes up about 10% of the total volume of all sedimentary rocks. The limestone is a fairly soft natural stone, which is mostly recommended for certain uses such asinterior flooring with low use, cladding, stone-work and masonry. Despite not being a major limestone country, Turkey has few very interesting limestones. Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, and cream-colored varieties. It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothems. Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, and/or geothermally heated hot-springs. Travertine is a natural stone commonly found on applications such as flooring, wall coverings, interior decoration or cladding. Turkey is a major travertine supplier and a good number of the stones we supply are travertine. |
